2.58 Inverse Functions Higher IGCSE PowerPoint Lesson

£2.00

In this 27-slide lesson, students will explore inverse functions by learning how to find the inverse of a function algebraically and express it using correct notation, such as f−1(x). They will understand that the domain and range of a function and its inverse are swapped and will discuss how certain values must be excluded to ensure the inverse is valid—for example, avoiding division by zero or restricting the domain of a quadratic to make the inverse a function. The lesson builds gradually, starting with linear functions and progressing to more complex cases involving quadratics, where students will use completing the square—both monic and non-monic forms—to rearrange and solve for the inverse. This lesson reinforces key algebraic techniques and deepens students' understanding of how functions behave under inversion.

This lesson is for the higher tier only.

The lesson includes:

  • Clear, guided examples

  • Discussion opportunities from Think, Pair, Share

  • Mini whiteboard section to check understanding and clarify misconceptions

  • Two structured tasks to practise key skills

  • Challenge activity to extend and deepen learning

Perfect for engaging learners while reinforcing essential algebra concepts.
